Kampala International University (KIU) is pioneering a groundbreaking Electric Vehicle (EV) training program, in collaboration with Henan Open University, to combat climate change and promote sustainable transportation. This innovative initiative is setting the pace for sustainable transportation, developing expertise in EV and Hybrid Vehicle technology, autonomous driving, and sustainable mobility solutions.
By taking the lead in EV training, KIU is addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Climate Action. The trained tutors will benefit greatly from this collaboration, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and expertise. “This is a great learning experience for our tutors/lecturers, who are now ready to pass on the knowledge to our students,” said Deputy Vice Chancellor of KIU Western Campus, Associate Professor Eric Mabonga.
The training team from Henan Open University, led by Yuan Zhengdao, is committed to the collaboration. “We are excited to share our expertise with KIU, as EV technology is crucial for a sustainable future. This training is needed now more than ever, and we are dedicated to making a positive impact,” said Yuan Zhengdao. Wang Yuqing and Li Zhibo, also part of the training team, bring their vast experience in EV technology to the program.
Kiira Motors, a Ugandan automotive company, is already making waves in the EV industry with their innovative designs and commitment to sustainable transportation. This collaboration will further enhance the skills of tutors, enabling them to produce graduates who can contribute to the growth of the EV sector. Ecomedia, a leading environmental media outlet, is commending KIU’s efforts to embrace evolving eco-friendly technologies. “KIU is taking a proactive approach to addressing climate change, and we’re excited to follow their progress,” said an Ecomedia representative.
