TREE HUGGING GUINNESS RECORD

Uganda environmental activist has set a world record for the longest time to hug a tree that not even could stop her.

Faith Patricia Ariokot wrapped her arms around a tree trunk for 16 hours 6 seconds to become the first official holder of the World Record.

She mentions that the attempt and gesture is to give challenge and encourage others to plant trees, and to highlight the need for humans to protect them.

“The tree chose me, and it was like love at first sight,” she explained. “When I saw the tree, I knew it was the one I would go for.” Says Faith.

The tree hugging record record differs slightly from ‘longest marathon’ records, such as the longest cooking marathon, where challengers accumulate five minutes of rest time after each continuous hour of activity.

Record attempts are ‘marathons’ only when they exceed 24 hours in length.

Thus, Faith was not permitted any breaks – her arms could not be released from the tree at any point, and she was required to stand for the entire duration of the record attempt.

Ariokot Faith Patricia’s pursuit of a Guinness World Record combatted an unexpected turn as nature itself decided to steal the spotlight, unleashing a bolt of lightning perilously close to her during the challenge.

Faith, who had already defied expectations by clinching a new record with a remarkable 13 hours of tree hugging, stood at the precipice of surpassing her own limits. With the ambitious goal of a groundbreaking 17-hour embrace, Faith and her dedicated team were caught in a whirlwind of excitement and determination.

However, just shy of the 15-hour mark, the tranquil atmosphere was shattered by an abrupt and electrifying jolt. Lightning, an uninvited guest in this arboreal spectacle, struck dangerously close, forcing an abrupt pause in the record-breaking attempt. The atmosphere crackled with tension, leaving onlookers breathless as Faith and her team swiftly assessed the situation.
