PROTECTING UGANDA’S GREEN LUNG: NFA’S CLIMATE ACTION EFFORTS

The NFA has also developed a climate-resilient forestry policy, which outlines strategies for managing forests in the face of climate change

Uganda’s National Forestry Authority (NFA) is at the forefront of the country’s climate action efforts, working tirelessly to protect and restore the nation’s vital forests. With the latest reports indicating a surge in global deforestation rates, the NFA’s work is more crucial than ever.

Recently, the NFA launched a nationwide tree-planting campaign, aiming to plant 40 million trees across the country. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to restore Uganda’s forest cover, which has been declining due to deforestation and land degradation.

In addition, the NFA has embarked on a major restoration project in the Mount Elgon region, aiming to restore 20,000 hectares of degraded forest land. This project will not only help to replenish the forest’s biodiversity but also support local communities through sustainable livelihoods.

The NFA has also developed a climate-resilient forestry policy, which outlines strategies for managing forests in the face of climate change. This policy will guide the country’s efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change while promoting sustainable forest management.

Furthermore, the NFA has partnered with international organizations to support its climate action efforts. For example, the Authority has received funding from the Green Climate Fund to support its efforts to reduce deforestation and promote sustainable land use.

Through these efforts, the NFA is demonstrating its commitment to protecting Uganda’s forests and addressing the climate crisis. By supporting the NFA’s work, we can help ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
